Whose the baby?

Long before Julia, Lucy was our baby. Most people we talked to said that Lucy would become second best to the new addition. Lucy has hung in there and surprised us all at how wonderful she is with the baby. Now with Julia rolling all over the floor the two are bound to have more run in's together. The other day was the first of many more to come. Julia rolled right into Lucy, and Lucy picked her head up to see that Julia now had a hunk of her skin and fur in her hand. Lucy gently gave Julia a couple kisses as to please let go, then laid her head back down, and went on napping. Lucy has always been a little neurotic and that goes with the territory of being a Weimaraner, but she is truly the sweetest thing. However, we have had some weird injuries. A couple of years ago Lucy had an infected ingrown hair follicle that had to be surgically removed. She now has a nice scar to show for that surgery. Today we returned home from a weekend in the mountains at a beautiful wedding to find that Lucy had a split toenail. It looked very painful. So I called the emergency vet and asked whether or not it was necessary to go in today, Sunday, or wait until our vet was open on Monday. The vet tech said we could wait to Monday as long as she didn't look like she was in pain and it wasn't bleeding. This is how I know that Lucy is still our baby. Graham and I didn't hesitate one moment before we loaded her into the car and took her to the emergency vet. Yes, it does cost more but nothing is too expensive for our first baby. So here is Lucy all bandaged up and sedated after having her toenail removed. They say the bandage needs to stay on for three to five days and no exercise for ten days. The next ten days should be very interesting!
